EMI GA Network General Meeting
"Mental/Behavioral Health and Mass Incarceration"

October 24, 2022 general meeting

October is National Mental Health Awareness month. According to Mental Health America of Georgia, an individual in Georgia with serious mental illness has a one in five chance of ending up in prison instead of a hospital; and that two in five children in our state have trouble accessing the mental health treatment they need. (https://www.mhageorgia.org/)

Our meeting focused on mental and behavioral health services as an essential support system for youth and adults in communities across Georgia to reduce/mitigate their introduction into the justice system and improve outcomes for those who are system-involved.

Guest panelists: Layla I. Fitzgerald, M.S., Director of Community Programs, Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities and Dr. James O. Montford. Jr., Pastoral Counselor/Therapist, PhD, MSPC, BACS, CCC, Life Development Center
